This is the Overhill Estate, also known as Dawson Heights, in south-east London. It's pretty spectacular and a bit crazy.
Here it is as seen from the Horniman Museum.
It's quite a walk to get there, but worth it to see the chaotic, angular design up close.
This is the view from the road. Canary Wharf is in the distance behind the lampost.
I love the design. it's as if from China Mieville's novel.
ReplyDeleteEven more astonishing as this was probably designed before Jenga became popular!
ReplyDeleteFantastic - a little ahead of its time, and designed by a woman: Kate Macintosh in 1966. See http://www.utopialondon.com/kate-macintosh
ReplyDeleteIf I remember rightly (and there's no guarantee of that) it's supposed to look like ships passing from a distance
