Best use of council estate in a music video - and the Oscar goes to Suede

I went to see my favourite band of all time, Suede, play at the Royal Albert Hall this week as part of the Teenage Cancer Trust's annual series of gigs.

Hearing them live again after their break up seven years ago was fantastic. It's good to know Brett's still got it, he was swinging the microphone around like he'd never stopped.

But I digress. During the amazing Animal Nitrate I remembered that parts of it were shot on a council estate (presumably in London).

After much asking around on various Brett Anderson and Suede forums it finally
emerged that it was shot on the 1,500 home Lisson Green Estate in Westminster - just off
Lisson Grove, which itself lies just off Euston Road as you come towards Paddington.
Thanks to some information I found on Facebook it turns out that in the video Brett
"comes out of the lift between Linslade and Lavendon with Horword House in front
walks to Dinton and the old block shared a bridge with Fingest and Dinton that went
over the laundrette".

Another girl posted that the flat the band (which then included original member
Bernard Butler - now producer of the likes of Duffy) is 18 Lavendon House - she said
the band paid her mum ten pounds to film in the flat!

The estate was built in the 1970s on Marylebone Station's former goods yard and has been revamped
numerous times since then by Westminster City Council.

Since I'm still camera-less, here are some pictures of the estate as it is today that I've pulled
from the internet.

  1. The Good, the Bad and the Queen's Kingdom of Doom features Trellick Tower. It's also in For Tommorrow by Blur... do they at least win BAFTAS?
